Healing properties of Holy Basil-TULSI

 Tulsi is the herb found throughout the world and is a natural boon to the mankind- society. In India it is worshiped like goddess due to its medicinal values and healing properties and people keep the plant in the court yard or somewhere in the house in open.

The leaves are a nerve tonic and sharpen memory.
Tulsi is useful and good not only to treat so many dieses like cancer, allergies, auto-immune disorder, diabetes, skin allergies, chronic Rhinitis, Sinusitis and its regular use can prevent form such health hazards, to fight with infections in a very effective manner.

From time immoral in ayurved it is used to treat the patients to cure cough and cold, sore throat, allergies, cancer etc. It’s very effective in viral, influenza, and other acute respiratory tract infections. Tulsi has been found to be very effective herbal remedy for asthma as well.

Mix the juice of Tulsi leaves with honey and if taken every day in the morning with empty stomach one can protect from so many dieses and illness. It also helps to increase the appetite and improve the digestion. Children can also be given the decoxion of tulsi with honey for their better health.

In general Tulsi is found to be of two types as:
Shyama Tulsi with black colored leaves and Rama Tulsi with green colored leaves. Both have the same healing properties.

Tulsi inhibits inflammation causing enzymes in our bodies which contribute to arthriritis pain and kind of inflammation. The anti-inflammatory effects of Tulsi are comparable to ibuprofen, naproxen and aspirin. Tulsi is in regular use could replace such medicine to kill the pain.

Tulsi is good to reduce the negative effect of stress. It also protects us against mercury toxicity. The mercury deposits in our system from eating fish and even inserting dental fillings. Tulsi helps extracts this mercury from our body, purifying the complete body system.

Fever & common cold: The leaves of basil are specific for many fevers. During the rainy season, when malaria and dengue fever are widely prevalent, tender leaves, boiled with tea, act as a preventive against these diseases. In case of acute fevers, a decoction of the leaves boiled with powdered cardamom in half a liter of water and mixed with sugar and milk to bring down the body temperature of the patient. The juice of tulsi leaves can be used to bring down fever. Extract of tulsi leaves in fresh water should be given every 2 to 3 hours.

Tulsi in Cough: Chewing tulsi leaves with peeper (Gol Kali Mirch) relieves cough, cold and flu. Tulsi is an important constituent of many Ayurvedic cough syrups and expectorants.

Treating Sore Throat: Boiled Tulsi leaves in water and drink in case of sore throat. This water can also be used for the purpose of gargles.

Tulsi in Respiratory Disorder: The herb is very useful in the treatment of respiratory system disorders. A decoction of the leaves, with honey and ginger is an effective remedy for bronchitis, asthma, influenza, cough and cold. For the immediate relief in the cases of influenza the decoction of the leaves, cloves and common salt is given for immediate relief. It is a boon for respiratory tract disorders. It helps in treating all the disorders, which are related to throat. It increases the immunity of the body therefore it helps in fighting against any antigen or infection that invades our body. It is also very helpful in expelling out the extra mucus that gets accumulated in our respiratory tract especially in lungs or the respiratory passage s.

Even healthy persons can chew 12 leaves of Tulsi, twice a day, to prevent stress. It even purifies the blood and helps prevent several common disorders or ailments.

Tulsi Improves Beta Cell Function:

Dental Care Leaves of Tulsi – dried in the sun and powdered, can be used for brushing teeth. It can also be mixed with mustard oil to make a paste and used as toothpaste. This is very good for maintaining dental health, counteracting bad breath and for massaging the gums. It is also useful in pyorrhea and other teeth disorders.

Insect Bites:
The herb is a prophylactic or preventive for insect stings or bites. A teaspoonful of the juice of the leaves is taken and is repeated after a few hours. Fresh juice must also be applied to the affected parts. A paste of fresh roots is also effective in case of bites of insects and leeches.

Skin Disorders: Applied locally, tulsi juice is beneficial in the treatment of ringworm and other skin diseases. It is also very beneficial in skin disorders as Leucoderma.
